California. Clam chowder from monterey bay

Drove on to Monterey Bay an stopped by for the best clam chowder at the pier! Creamy thick indulgent chunky fresh clam chowder that filled my mouth with decadent goodness. I walked down the streets and sampled 6 different types of chowders before deciding on the very first one because it just tasted so amazing. The good thing is that u get to try all the different types before deciding which you like best! And it was so good, after 6 samples i was still left wanting more =) so we ordered a sour dough bread bowl filled with that amazing chowder!

Next, We ordered a seafood appetiser, a crab cocktail made of bits and chunks of Sweet, textured, cold, clean and refreshing bites!

And Calamari came on the house! Made with soft, fresh squid that was juicy, succulent, yet soft, covered in crispy light batter that tasted very simple, yet flavorful! Accompanied with tartar sauce with a slight sour lemon zest!

And i even bought a can of soup to bring back home =)

Californian dessert PIE!!

Marie Callender's pies are something i grew up on! They're sweet, decadent, made fresh everyday, and have really nice pie crust bases that just crumble in your mouth. Unlike outlets in Singapore, the outlets in California price the same thing differently at different places, so here was the cheapest place to get the pies (my dad had paid five bucks more somewhere else). It was already night time, and the streets were dark, but the little cottage looked warm and inviting! not to mention the smell of pie in the cold air!

almost got the pecan but the ENTIRE PIE WAS filled with PECAN AND TOFFEE! looked more like diabetes in a pie. very yummy, diabetes.  there were also huge muffins, as big as my outstretched hand!

PIE FOR CHOICE: custard pie!!

This reminds me of the egg tarts from Hong Kong, because there is a slightly egg-ish taste but the texture of the custard was smooth, light, a little like jelly ( like the 'lao-ban' soya bean jelly) and wasn't thick, yet still achieved that creamy softness that filled my mouth with yummy creamy goodness! the base was soft and homey tasting.

No wonder I grew up on this, and no wonder I was a chubby kid. Well worth the calories, which Americans are super conscious about. The waitress was like "the pecan has xxx calories and the pumpkin pie has xxx..." which made no sense to me other than that the pecan > custard in terms of fatness index BUT who goes to eat pie if they are on a diet? glad to know I'm eating less calories but, really. it's pie. no one who is on a diet eats pie. Pie is their mortal enemy. HAHA! but for today, and for now, probably for always, this pie is my tummy's best friend! BUT WAIT! that's not all folks! This was accompanied with a post-dessert-dessert: ice cream!

Caramel icecream with thick generous swirls of sea salt caramel. The salt isn't strong enough to be tasted but the caramel had that burnt sugar tinge that was toffee-ish and not just sweet like sugar had spammed. The icecream was soft like gelato, but not melty, and had a very creamy consistency. Salted caramel chunks coated in chocolate were folded into the icecream and complemented the flavours well by adding occasional oomphs of flavour to the already deliciously decadent creamy mixture.

California. aeroplane food

Hello everyone! i haven't figured out what my blog's going to be about, nor what I'll be writing about, so I thought I'd stop thinking so much (irony) and just write about what I did today. Basically, I'm jet lagged, a lil' bored, and itching for some typing so here goes my first post!

I'm in California for the next three weeks visiting my parents, so here's all about my travelling.
The flight.the farewells and the claustrophobic cabin freedom.

So, as a bubble tea fan, a BIG bubble tea fan. I had to drink my last cup of bubble tea from Each a Cup.  Milk tea with Ai-yu jelly. not bad! but i was feeling kind of sad to leave home. and sit through a 17 hr flight. drank my sorrows away and off i went!

Dinner from Singapore to Los Angeles was really nice, which took my mind off the turbulent weather ( I get motion sick when there's too much shaking involved) oh and alot of the pictures are a little blur because the plane got really shaky!

Dinner began with Chicken and Lamb Satay, with a spicy peanut sauce and onion and cucumber. The meat was chunky, tender, and juicy, so it was a good starter with the fragrant peanut sauce wafting through the cabin.

Next was a salad of steamed Prawn with rocket ash goat cheese, walnuts and fresh strawberries, drizzled with a deep-pinkish strawberry sauce. The strawberries were soft, ripe and sweet, moistening the dryness of the crumbly textured cheese that was smooth, and very pungent, whilst the more subtle flavour of the prawn and the slightly bitter salad leaves had a lighter, more clean and refreshing taste.

The main course was Tori Miso Yaki, Japanese style free-range chicken with miso paste, swet potato and pumpkin, and flavoured steam rice that was slightly sticky. The dotted ball at the bottom was a konjac jelly ball, that was like konnyaku jelly that was salty, and was very bouncy. The mushroom gushed with soup when chewed and was sweet, with a tinge of herbs.

Lastly, dessert consisted of a cold mango sorbet covered in a mixed berry compote that was thick and sweet, accompanied by a caramel web coated with black and white sesame seeds. It was so yummy i had to take another photo of it.

For nibbles while i continued watching my movies, was a variety of Payson breton brie (bottom), delice des bois ( the one with two purple layers that tasted like grape/berry), and stokes point smoked cheddar (top right), served with fig paste (the purple jelly), grapes, walnuts and crackers. The cheeses were really tasty and I love brie and smoked cheddar. Brie for its softness, sweetness and smoothness, and brie for its dry and salty hardness. The creamy cheese was stronger but fluffy, and the sour berry flavour contrasted the thickness it had.

Thus concludes a really nice meal, with really pampering service. and OH really nice tea. TWG paris singapore tea. tastes like green asian tea with a floral accent of blossoms and petals and lychee.
okok, lousy description, so this...

basically tasted like this...and this...

which i drank at least 10 cups of cus it was sooooo delighting..

the end!

gonna take her for a ride on a big jet plane
