The Script at Avalon, Marina Bay Sands

Singapore's all decked up for the F1!! yay! so it's bright lights everywhere and looks like day when it's actually REALLY late at night, and yes, the sun has gone to sleep a looong time ago. but the citylights brighten up the night. But the streets have been blocked up, so it was kinda hard to get to my destination but LO AND BEHOLD! i succeeded! yay me! *fist pump

The Script's concert was at Avalon, a beautiful glasshouse club in the middle of the water, next to Marina Bay Sands! beautiful place to be! and super chill, fittingly so for the showcase since it was an acoustic session. not quite sure what that meant, cus the full band had a really full sound! and was very pumped up! great balance of sounds! With an ensemble of an acoustic guitarist, electric bassist, drummer, keyboardist and frontman Danny! who, is an amazing vocalist and frontman. The Irish band from Dublin had strong accents, that just made all the girls in the crowd scream whenever he said anything!

"We named our band #3 cus 3 is the magic number, 3 people in the band (Mark Glen and Danny) 3rd album, and 3 is the number of rock, yes i just made that up" *cue screaming girls!

full of humour, some naughty remarks (only to escape the conversation by playing a song), the crowd was wowed by the rapping, quick lyrics, and the chart toppers they played, like "breakeven", "man who can't be moved", "we cry" and their latest hot track, "Hall of Fame" and my personal fave cus it's got great groove and a great feeling chorus! wooot! The love ballads, and his soaring vocals passionately emoting the difficulties of life sometimes in "for the first time" definitely won the crowd over =)

i love his pose here haha!

He had so much stage presence and energy that he looked so into the music, and the audience was really drawn in by the band. his great vocals, highs and lows, fit perfectly with the guitars and keys. Definitely a great band that captivates.

And the guitarist rapped "Hall of Fame" IRELAND REPRESENT'N!!! HOLLAHH!!!

Him serenading the crowd with the guitar. Aptly so, the fans on the club dancefloor just below the stage were singing along, and we sang great he claims, DUH we are SING-aporeans. PUNNY! he pulled it off only cus he's a rawkstah. i swear. HAHA!

Overall, the sound system at Avalon was really nice and intimate, most of the sound focussed on the dancefloor, right infront of the stage, rather than "surround sound" which i thought was a nice touch to the enclosure as a gig space =) and it was cool that the soundman we were standing next to had a song list so the peepers (like me) could peer over =)

And this was all possible cus my friend invited me.. THANKS YOUJIN! =)
what a cool way to start my weekend! its 2am now and nothing good ever happens after 2am so i'm off to bed now =D but TGIF friday friday friday!!!!

Ingrid Michaelson at the Esplanade

Can't believe Ingrid Michaelson finally finally came to Singapore =) Was looking forward to finally watching her show after a long day! And it definitely sparkled up my nights, with high notes, sombre cooing, and not to mention the tummy-tickling laughs she gave me from her witty jokes. Her confidence and comfort on stage made her a true star in her own skin, donning a curious looking outfit of stockings and boots, topped with a shirt that had a tail, and short shorts. " Those at the back, if you can't se, I'd just like to point out that I'm wearing shorts" she joked, just in case those at the back thought she was being skimpy! On the contrary. Her ukelele strumming came off strong, like a march,  filling the auditorium with a full sound of her memorable melodies. I felt as though I had just been whisked off into a box of sound =D  (pardon the blur photos, I really ought to get a proper camera :D)

Fun fact: Ingrid Michaelson has a degree in theatre, and used to be part of a comedy group. Shes a pro-comedian!

She performed songs from her old album and new one, perfectly hitting all the notes like a pro, keeping the hopeful vibe her music does by singing songs like "Do it now", "parachute" and "giving up. She also did one of my top favorites "corner of your heart", ending in a note that seemed to go on forever. DREAMY!

On stage with her was a brilliant set-up, backed by two talented female singer songwriters themselves, harmonising in perfect sync, and the guitars seemed to shadow each other, creating one same sound of perfect blending. Usually instruments can be heard singularly and separated, but they matched up so well! Donned in black and high heels, I definitely thought they were badass! =) Her two backups were Allie Moss, checkout a song here, and Bess Rogers, checkout a song here.

Living in New York, she narrated the story of how she'd take the train to Manhatten every morning to record her album and would b in a great mood, whilst others would look downright dreary and depressed, and recounted how one time, during winter and all bundled up in jackets, she was snuggled up with another girl in the subway because it was so crowded that they got squished up next to each other! and she was comfortably cuddling the other girl all the way. Finally when she reached her stop, she got off and wanted to say goodbye but the other girl had looked away. And so, in a time capsule, she shared a wonderful snuggle with a stranger.  In contrast, a snobby teenager had 'accidentally' (Ingrid insists it was on purpose) knocked Ingrid's coffee out her mitten and onto the snow and she just felt so sad, unable to do anything about it, and ending up lying in bed thinking of the bajillion things she could've said or done, imagining herself as a superhero and towering threateningly over! HAHA but anyway, so instead of being nasty, why can't everyone just be nice to one another? So that's the story behind her song, "blood brothers". I guess another thing about Ingrid that I love, is that her music always has that tone of hope, like tomorrow's always going to be better. Another chance to try. =)

Here's the youtube, which i loved too, she dresses up as Marilyn Manson and Lady Gaga. Rather cool.

Ingrid wooed the crowd with her jokes, then seemed to jump right into her sad song "Ghost" just by flipping her hair, which she says gets her into her sad mood. Her ability to focus after telling jokes was amazing, delivering her song with such strong emotional zest, and fully conveying the melancholic messages of that song, hitting all the notes, and holding the pauses and keeping the audience captive. Then hops back into jokes on how terrified she was that the bubblegum-police were going to throw her in jail for popping gum, and imagined us Singaporeans with bubblegum addictions, rushing home to stuff ourselves with gum and when finally, frothing and foaming at the mouth and satisfied, we'd pass out happily haha! She even did some improvising on creating her own Singaporean song, complete with snapping of tha fingers and that *swagger, ending off with "Don't tell mama what you did". I couldn't help but roar with laughter.

Her husband Greg Laswell opened the show, playing both the guitar and the piano (what a talented, musical couple) although, according to Ingrid, she doesn't play the banjo in the corner while he does something else musical, they just, watch TV. here's a song by him, click here. He also sang a song called "how the day sounds", which was about how a day can just be amazing when you're with someone special. he's pretty funny too, doing a cover, he says was of someone covering his own song where the song was slowed down, and he thought it sounded so much better! haha! and he did a super emo, slow version of "girls just wana have fun" which sounded serious, yet the familiar tune just can't be taken that seriously, so it was good. =) super sweet together they even did a duet called "light in me", squeezing lovingly together to share a microphone!

She even foretold the future and notified us how she would pretend to go offstage and we'd clap for 30 seconds and shout for an encore before she'd come back onstage totally unprepared and totally shocked! So heads up, fifteen minutes later we roared again with laughter as she, Allie and Bess had fake-stunned-faces, saying how they were totally caught offguard and unpre- *starts strumming ukelele and dives into "be ok"!! HAHA a happy, cheerful song! finally ending (for real this time) with "the way I am".

I'm in such awe of her singing abilities, with such an amazing, soaring voice, as well as her songs. they're just so nice to listen to, and truly inspiring. And I wouldn't have gotten the opportunity if not for Kevin, so thanks Kevin! for the awesome seats! definitely chased my Monday blues away =)

i love taimei

Gosh best ji-pa EVER! (i haven't been to Taiwan yet) haha! but it's pretty good! really! i tried this and it's super yums. pigout to the max. i like asian food because of the flavours, so this is a good alternative to the boring ol' fried chicken.. and for about $8 you can get...

BBQ Chicken + Seaweed fries + caramel milk tea with pearls = ♥

So you can choose from the bbq Sel that I always get. It's a lil spicy, a lil sweet, and I like that the Chicken is crispy on the outside, and a little chewy, and the chicken is soft and piping hot! very juicy too. I usually don't like chicken-breast because it's dry (i'm such a kid, can only eat fatty meat, not the lean healthy type) so this is great that way.

Ella: super crispy chicken, it's REALLY super crispy. Not recommended for people with no teeth.lol *gnaw*...Hebe is lemon chicken, and then theres popcorn chicken, some tempura thingy, and fried mushrooms yummy!

Then for the side dish, there's fries. and you can pick the flavour from curry, mexican which is spicey and quite tasty, cheesy which makes your fries taste like cheetos, wasabi, and my fav, seaweed! and their shoestring fries are really light and crispy. These are my FAV fries, and I kind of like them better than MacD's because they don't get soggy as quickly and there's less MSG. MacD really spams, leaves me thirsty. but MacD's coke is still numero uno HURHUR. I swear they have special coke.

-passion fruit ice tea!-

And last but not least!!! DRUMROLL* bubble tea! be tempted by this ice, cold, smooth, sweet, milky bubble tea! I recommend the white pearls, they're a little hard, nice to chew but not as filling as the black pearls, and better than Gongcha's white pearls. Gongcha's white pearls is now really soft, like white jelly. quality fail. got softer n softer. so yes, i♥taimei's bubble tea is not bad, the milk tea is quite thick, not diluted, and smooth. good stuff. pearls also very chewy! the caramel milk tea and hazelnut milk tea are not bad, the berry rose is interesting but if you have a weak stomach you might get a detox after-effect, and the passionfruit is a fruity light alternative, but their milk teas are quite solid, worth getting =)  so this is really awesome to eat. junk food and flavours galore!
it was so steamy that my camera fogged up! HOT STUFF!

The only bad part is that it's a stall so there's nowhere to sit. There's one at bugis junction in the basement and one at the end of bugis street, and a new one at raffles city!! so you can either walk around and eat, or sit down at the food court or hawker centre!

Caramel Ice cream Crepes at Canele

YESTERDAY WAS FRIDAY!!! Love fridays. =) they mean the start of the weekend OH YEAH! so to cellebrate (see what I did there.. celle-abrate), the after dinner dessert treat was French Crepes at Canele Patisserie pronounced in thick, French, i-love-desserts kinda accent =) at Raffles City.

Flower of the sea Crepe

The delectable treat begins with a sweet crepe base, hot and crispy on the surface and soft, chewy and sweet in the middle, sandwiching a thick warm chocolate hazelnut filling, like Nutella, but thicker, possibly from being heated. The texture of the crepe is thick, yet light, and oozes with the hazelnut filling, drizzled with a caramel sauce that gives a burnt toffee flavor, topped with 'Creme de Chantilly' if i remember right from the menu, which is a light whipped cream.

It is decorated with large fins of caramelised filo, like that of a sailboat, sailing your tastebuds into a sweet treat! the caramelised filo is crisp, like the crumbly pastry of an apple strudel, yet is extremely brittle from being candied by the caramel. It's very thin, light, crispy and the sweetness of that pastry flake mixes with the sugary goodness of the glaze. oh yes, and this hot crepe is topped with chocolate praline icecream, that was very chocolaty and smooth, and tasted bittersweet, like dark chocolate.

What takes the  cake crepe, is that the varying types of sweetness subtly contrast each other to create a myriad of sweetness, each type of 'sweet' emphasizing the other.
Overall the dessert isin't heavy at all, and wasen't too sweet although the description in the menu has a galore of chocolate and caramel. Even after dinner! On the contrary, it was rather light, and satisfied my sweet tooth =) Delicieux!

Random Facts : 'Fleur de Sel' means 'flower of the ocean' and is a gourmet, kosher, hand harvested French salt while 'Flor de la Mar' (flower of the sea) was a Portuguese ship that sailed around the Indian Ocean till it sank "(>_<)

MY EVIL FACE BEFORE I KILL IT WITH MY KNIFE! *teehee

The ambience is pretty modern, with maroons and whites! And the bustling crowd constantly rushing past, time seems to stand still in this cafe in the middle, decorated with lush cushions, comfy after walking around all evening!

The portion's good for two to share. slightly pricey! but good decadence for two! at about $15++ But the service was a little slow and it was a lil' difficult to get their attention because they had a full house, and a long waitlist too. They also close at 10pm so be sure to go earlier or you'll be shooed away!!
